MY GENDER, MY PRIDE | THEME PRIDE AMSTERDAM 2022
Everyone should feel free to be themselves, without an imposed norm from outside. Unfortunately, the reality is different and our emancipation is often far from complete. In the Netherlands, too, people are still discriminated against and beaten up every day because of who they are or who they love. In recent decades, our struggle has mainly been about 'being allowed to love who we want' and it is time to broaden the focus to 'be allowed to be how we feel'. In other words, time to pay attention to the diversity of gender identities and our right to self-determination. We have the right to deviate from the norm and the sex we were given at birth. Gender identity is central during Pride Amsterdam from July 30 to August 7, 2022 with the theme 'My Gender, My Pride'.

IN MEMORIAM | AXE LEITO
In memory of Axe Leito [17-11-1980/ 18-2-2023] On February 18, 2023, Pride Ambassador Axe Leito passed away. Board, employees, and volunteers of Pride Amsterdam are deeply shocked. We will miss his generous smile and contagious enthusiasm. We wish Robin, his family and friends and the leather community of which he was so proud to be a part of this enormous loss. In 2020, Axe was appointed Pride Ambassador on behalf of the leather community, a position he fulfilled with great enthusiasm. Axe had previously been elected Mister Leather Netherlands and in that position, he quickly became the figurehead of the leather community. He was a role model and example to many. As a Pride Ambassador, Axe was not only active in the Netherlands. Born in Curaçao, Axe also involved the Caribbean part of the Kingdom in his activities. There he gave interviews for television and newspapers and, in addition to his fetish for leather, also spoke candidly about themes such as HIV and condom use. Of course, he had brought a huge number of condoms to promote safe sex. His time in the Army and his military missions in Afghanistan and Iraq taught him what freedom means. Freedom that he granted everyone and for which he devoted himself unbridled.
